Greetings.

I know that it is considered uber lame to not post, and even lamer to post a lame post, but so be it.

Vancouver is green and rainy. I have returned today.

The holidays were fun, although seemed to reinforce in some ways my disenchantment w/ my programme.

Picture follow. (I got a haircut, but it is hidden)

Give Corpses for Christmas [Nov. 28th, 2005|10:59 am]
I am sure that the folks over at hotmail didn't mean for this to be Frankensteinesque...
But they have succeeded tremendously...

A brief update...

1) It is now CONSTANTLY RAINING IN Vancouver
2) Likewise, I am swamped in work

3) I am workingg on a participatory mapping/film project in the Downtown Eastside and had an excellent conversation with a (homeless, former crack addict, super awesome) guy who also used to be a EZLN fighter. He told me to tell my parents that they have been good parents

4) I was a mystery for halloween. This is no joke

5) I have just ordered a ton of errol morris films, depsite being unable to afford it

6) I have still not had a serious fall while skateboarding; my next step is to buy gloves so that I can start 'sliding'. I will update on this event as it occurs.

7) One more reason to despise greenpeace (as if banning seal hunting wasn't enough); Greenpeace admits damaging coral reef

The environmental group Greenpeace said yesterday that its flagship Rainbow Warrior accidentally struck a coral reef in a marine park in the Philippines while on a climate change expedition, and that it has agreed to compensate the park.

It as just occurred to me that i have left the subject of green college quite ambiguous.

It has academic programming

and is also a graduate residence.

 I live here

it is very far from the city of vancouver

i do not get out much

Things that are true;

1) The following keys on my keyboard are refusing to work on a full time basis; g,h, and backspace. Likely cause; plant soil spillage
2) I will be an official 'sk8ter' by thursday by purchasing an expensive longboard, that will, hopefully, allow me to quickly blend in here
3) I have to read a massively boring book for my first planning essay...which will certainly be late
4) I am coming home for 'thanksgiving'
5) I am extremely bored at the moment.

So, today was a rater long day of attempting to gget through all of my readings. Results; very unssucessful. also cannot spell due to brain cells being used for reading. I read Hardins fascist, social darwinian, neo-malthusian "Tragedy of the Commons" today, and I am now, happy to report, a much better person than before.

As for fun news, we cooked a bunch of dinner in the common kitchen; i volunteered pesto, melissa volunteered old chili, and Jim and 'Ducky' went and bought wine, organic bread, organic produce, and made cookie dough. They also made miso soup. Fabulous. The following pictures are, quite possibly, the most unflattering photos I have ever taken of anyone. Too funny.

hope all is well back east (and the far east, for you salim)

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSRHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRC [Sep. 22nd, 2005|07:44 pm]
Tis true, alas,

what with all the sshrcs and raships being thrown agound, I have not had time to properly spend time with you, dear live journal.

It looks like..

1) I will be home for 'thanksgiving' (insert rant here)
2) I am working as an RA and will be making a film about a video game company (yay!)
3) I will also be getting paid to make another film, as part of "P4T", otherwise known as "Planners for Tomorrow"

I also have more irritatingly huge and insignificant photos:

nada mucho [Sep. 13th, 2005|10:26 pm]
So I have been kept quite busy.
I am at the moment attempting to find a job...hopefully a research one. Other than that, I am settling in, but everything is strange and I miss laughing at horribly awful good jokes.
I am in the exhausting process of applying for a SSHRC, and thus have to get my proposal torn to shreds by many different people.
It would be ok, except I also have to go to disheartening interviews. well, that's it. here are some more nature pictures

Vancouver Proper [Sep. 10th, 2005|06:33 pm]
So, today I ventured past the UBC campus with a fellow green collegiate Alice, who, despite appearing to have lots in common with me, is not that interesting. Anyways, the day was quite interesting; I like to explore cities by sort of getting on a bus and getting of where things look interesting...she liked maps and street names and bus numbers. Anyways, it seems that Vancouver is the strangest city I have ever been too...even counting weird places like Denver. Two streets away from the financial district, the yuppie/touristy gastown is the "east end"...the most feared location of any canadian city. This area seems enclosed on all sides by genrtification, and the people in the middle seem quite angry.

As for Chinatown...also a strange experience...the most unbusy Chinatown I have ever seen...and pretty 'prettied up'. In other words; chinatown vancouver seems to suck...probably because all of the Chinese people now live in Richmond.

So, tis all for now. Please enjoy the photographs.

as the UN formally falls apart, there emerges a visionary...of sorts:

"Mr Bolton has so far made only one significant concession, dropping his demand for the term "millennium development goals" to be deleted".

A (non) post [Sep. 9th, 2005|10:09 am]
I hate to bother to post about this, especially since it is really only relevant to 2 people who sometimes read my LIVE journal, but....I am curious.

Ian aka "gay/green party/devs" Ian never showed up. What the hell?

Day 2 [Sep. 6th, 2005|09:43 pm]

Well, the first day of orientation is over...only 3 more 9-3 days to go! So far, people seem like they're jackasses. Or maybe I am just bitter.

I am supposed to go to Whistler in order to  mingle or something, but I am certainly avoiding that awkward situation AT ALL COSTS.

So, here are a few more pictures. when I am not so exhausted I will post more stuff about the weirdness of Vancouver.

Greetings from the V Dot [Sep. 5th, 2005|08:44 pm]
And V dot can be taken however you want.

Anyways, as I am really super tired, having travelled all day, this will be a short post with many pictures. Tomorrow my week long orientation begins at 9:00 with a three hour 'plenary' session.

It is too soon to release a verdict, and when I do, you all best be warned that it is likely to change. So far...I AM HANDLING IT.

People here don't use sarcasm. ever. daria would hate it here.

My 'bathroom' mate seems quite entertaining, and she is not an awful polisci like many.

For everyone's reference; I am living in a graduate residence called green college. There are 80 of us. I have a room, we eat meals together, have organized discussions, and (from the sounds of it) scavenger hunts.

I will post pictures of the exterior of green college later.

Now, for some pictures.... Read more... )

Announcement [Sep. 3rd, 2005|09:19 pm]
So...I have now purchased a digital camera!
My plans of updating my livejournal from Vancouver are now coming to fruition...much, I am sure, to everyone's dismay.

Speaking of which, I am leaving on Monday, and have a week of orientation (seminars and beer) before my 12 weeks of Planning begin.

I'll update, as I am sure that i will have little else to do!

Verdict on the camera?

The FEAR [Aug. 26th, 2005|12:06 am]

I refuse to elaborate on the title of this post.

But Salim should note that this IS an update.

So, recently I have been going through a lot of my stuff and either making monster compilations or simply PURGING. Along the way I have found...

1) Math homework from grade 4

2) My Ace of Base tape

3) Many Photographs

4)  And, a quote from Salim, faithfully transcribed in my third year "Culture and Technology" course reader;

(if reference to some girl who I can't quite remember) "She could go down on all fours and give me an eternal blowjob and I would still refuse"

photos.
